ALBERT CABESTANY FINISHES FIFTH
24 April 2007 - Sherco
First day of competition in Guatemala
The first day of competition in the GP of Guatemala has proven that this is going to be a very spectacular trial. The trial is not as difficult as round 1 as seen in the lower scores, however some of the sections are very difficult because the best riders in the world were not able to negotiate them without taking a five. The key to the race was in the fives, the rider who obtained the fewest did the best. Albert finished the first lap in fourth place with 23 points, he was consistent and also scored 23 points in the second lap which relegated him to fifth place overall for the first day. Two consecutive fives in sections five and six in both laps and another one is section eight was too much for him to overcome. The rider from Tarragona ended up four points behind Doug Lampkin for the day Dani Oliveras has shown again that he is on the road to becoming one of the top riders. He finished just behind the best riders in the world in ninth place. The difficult sections in Guatemala have taken their toll on the young Sherco rider; he had some high scores but did show good consistency in this first day of competition. Just behind Dani, in tenth place was the young French rider Cristophe Bruand. In the Junior category Sherco rider Loris Gubian finished in fourth place just three points from the third spot on the podium, he was followed by the British rider Reads Sampson and the Italian Matteo Grattarola. In the Junior 125 Category the young American Patrick Smage managed to earn the third place podium position, followed by the French rider Alexis Cervantes and David Millan finished sixth.
