AIRWAVES DUCATI DOUBLE THEIR DOUBLE WITH Q8OILS
17 April 2007 - Q8 Oils
Gregorio Lavilla delivered his second double win of the season on his Q8Oils lubricated Airwaves Ducati at Round Two of the British Superbike Championship.
Team-mate Leon Haslam overcame a frustrating time in qualifying, that left him 10th on the grid, and achieved two 6th places in a breathtaking day’s racing at Thruxton. Starting from second, Greg dropped three places in Race One but worked his way back up to 2nd by the end of lap four. He then recorded the fastest lap of the race to chase down Jonathan Rea and move into 1st position. The Spaniard stretched out his lead, going into the final lap 3.6 seconds ahead of 2nd placed Leon Camier for a comfortable victory. Haslam got a good start, making it into fourth and fought hard to maintain his position, eventually completing this highly competitive race in 6th. As the air temperature hit 26 degrees Race Two looked set to be another scorching 22 laps and did not disappoint. By the end of the first lap Greg was in 3rd and moved away from the rest of the field with the Hondas of Shane Byrne and Jonathan Rea. Kiyonari soon got back on terms with the podium challengers and the top four stretched out a lead. Greg moved into 1st place on lap seven and tried to extend his lead when the safety car was introduced on lap 11, bringing back unwelcome memories from the previous round at Brands Hatch. As the race re-started Leon moved up into 6th position, which he held until the finish. Greg looked comfortable ahead of the pack until the final lap when 2nd placed Kiyonari closed him down. In a chase to the chequered flag Greg crossed the line 0.113 seconds ahead of Kiyonari. With maximum points in the championship, Gregorio Lavilla was delighted; “I am really pleased with my results today, it is great to be performing so well and winning the races. The second race today was the hardest of the year so far for me.” Team manager Colin Wright describes the competition in this year’s BSB championship as “the toughest it’s been” and for the third successive season Q8Oils are delivering levels of lubrication that enable the riders to extract the full potential from their machines.
