MORE BMW SUCCESS AT MCN AWARDS
05 November 2004 - BMW Motorrad GB
This year’s Motor Cycle News Awards at the International Motorcycle and Scooter Show in Birmingham saw BMW Motorrad scoop the much-coveted Best Trailie award for its top-selling R1200 GS.
Additionally, BMW’s luxury touring machine– the K1200 LT – won the Best Tourer award for the sixth consecutive year. A star-studded collection of motorcycling celebrities saw the Long Way Round’s, Charley Boorman, present Pieter De Waal, BMW Motorrad’s head of Sales and Marketing with the MCN Best Trailie award for the R1200 GS (the best selling motorcycle over 1000cc in the UK). This award is yet another to add to a whole host of accolades the R1200 GS has already received since its launch earlier this year, including the prestigious 2004 International Design Excellence Award (IDEA). BMW’s K1200 LT had already won more MCN Awards than any other motorcycle and its impressive tally of five consecutive victories was added to last night, proving its domination in the Best Tourer class. Earlier this year BMW Motorrad relaunched the K1200 LT with a more powerful engine, electro-hydraulic centre stand, more comfortable seating and an exhaustive list of factory and dealer fit options to suit all riders and pillions. BMW Motorrad’s Marketing Manager, Tony Jakeman, was delighted that the K1200 LT has won the high-status award for yet another year: “To win the MCN Award for best tourer six years running is an incredible achievement,” he said. “BMW Motorrad prides itself on building motorcycles with unsurpassed levels of comfort and performance, without compromising on their outstanding agility. To have this recognised by MCN’s panel of experts, as well as the motorcycling public, is praise indeed. We hope that this will encourage even more motorcyclists to visit our network of BMW Motorrad Dealerships to test ride these innovative machines.” BMW Motorrad’s BoxerCup ambassador, Randy Mamola, was presented with a lifetime achievement award for his contribution to motorcycling and his tireless work for the Riders for Health charity. The prestigious annual MCN awards, now in their ninth year, are highly respected and aim to recognise the motorcycling industry’s most worthy manufacturers, models and products.
