COMMISSION FOR WOMEN IN MOTORCYCLING The Commission for Women in Motorcycling (CFM) was established last year but after just two meetings, the commission of 13 women from all over the world has made significant changes to the motorcycle world. The most remarkable achievement so far is that the CER (Enduro and Cross-Country Rallies Commission) agreed to a CFM proposal to create a Women''s Cup for the 2007 ISDE that will hopefully become a Women’s Trophy as of 2008. Although discussions are only in the initial stages and a number of issues still have to be finalised, the CFM is also investigating the possibility of a “Peace Ride” in 2009 in Egypt going from Cairo to Sharm El Sheikh. This means that hundreds of women from all over the world would ride collecting money for charity. All CFM members have been involved in motor sport/tourism for years and represent all categories of motorcycling at an international level. The President of the Commission is Beaulah Schoeman (South Africa) and the Vice-Presidents are Lene Fevang (Norway) and Sue Mason (USA). The commission’s mission is to create equal opportunities and treatment for all women involved in all aspects of motorcycling. The goal is to bring more women into the motorcycling world. The biggest issue for the CFM is the improvement in conditions for women in races, such as more toilets and locker rooms. Attitudes towards women competitors must also be changed. The CFM is therefore creating guidelines (CFM Code of Conduct) on how women should be treated in the motorcycle world including a respect for their needs and allowing them better access to motorcycle sport and related activities. The CFM encourages National Motorcycle Federations to train and promote their female staff into posts at higher levels. Organisers of sporting events are also encouraged to give women tasks and responsibilities other than giving flowers to the champions. The CFM will provide training for women in administration as well as in the field of sport. The Commission will also contact motorcycle equipment manufacturers in order for them to take into consideration the needs of women riders.
