BAD WEATHER STILL A FACTOR
22 November 2005 - Aprilia

The weather conditions continue to ravage Aprilia testing.

Due to inclement weather, Marco Simoncelli and Alex De Angelis’ RSWs have yet to make it to the track while Giorgio Lorenzo and Hector Barbera tried to gain confidence despite the morning downpours. They were only able to complete a few laps before having to the put the motorcycles back in the box.

A forced stop for Alex De Angelis, part of the motorcycle’s 2006 design. To try to race in the present conditions wouldn’t be productive experience-wise, and thus it was decided to not race.

”It is the second time that we have to renounce the testing – said De Angelis – and it is a shame especially with the work that we are bringing forward with Team Sviluppo. The new motorcycle has given encouraging signs but if we continue to work in these conditions it will be difficult to gain any experience or mileage. We are hoping that the situation will improve tomorrow and that we can carry forward without difficulties.”

For Marco Simoncelli it was only three laps of racing before he returned to the box.

“When I came out on the asphalt, it seemed to be drying out –Simoncelli said – but the truth was otherwise. The track was impossible to practice on and it was better to go back in the box after a few laps. Now we wait for tomorrow to get in some good mileage.”

For tomorrow (the last programmed for the testing at Jerez de la Frontera), we await better weather.
