SIMONCELLI FRACTURES A CLAVICAL
07 December 2006 - Aprilia
LORENZO AND DE ANGELIS DO WELL
The Aprilia 250 testing did not get off to the greatest start on the track in Valencia. Marco Simoncelli fell a little after 3:00 local time on the slow part of the Ricardo Tormo track, fracturing his left clavicle upon impact with the asphalt. He was immediately transferred to the city’s hospital and it was clear that the testing was over for the Roman rider. Absolute rest for the next few days is the doctor’s orders for Marco. During the evening he returned to Italy for a visit to Doctor Costa in Imola. Notwithstanding the incident, Marco marked the third best time of 1’37”1. Also racing strongly in Valencia were Giorgio Lorenzo and Alex De Angelis. The Spanish rider closed out the day with a good 1’35”7, confirming himself as the fastest on the track. For De Angelis it was second at 1’36”8, with the new 2006 motorcycle. Alex is getting to know his new team, Aspar Team 250, and Pietro Caprara, his new technical leader (at Casey Stoner’s side during the 2005 season) during the tests. It was an absolute debut atop an Aprilia for Alex Debon. The Spanish rider will have the assignment of developing the RSW 250 as a test rider during the course of 2006. Alex, with the time of 1’37”2, is demonstrating to be fast right from the start. Debon’s time, in fact, was slightly better than Hector Barbero’s who raced one tenth slower than his compatriot, stopping the chronometer at 1’37”3. Once again on the track in Valencia after the 2005 season was Roberto Locatelli. The ex-125 world champion who will race the next international season atop a Team Toth RSV 250, was on the track with his new team. For him it was 6th place with a time of 1’37”5. The Aprilia tests will also continue tomorrow, December 8th, and will end on December 9th.
