TEAM FORTUNA, POSITIVE IRTA TESTS
06 March 2006 - Aprilia
Jorge Lorenzo and Hector Barbera leave Barcelona satisfied.
Lorenzo clearly demonstrated that he will be a contender this season, officially beginning with the first race at Jerez this March 26th. The rider from Palma de Mallorca struck first and stayed ahead of the rest, including ahead of Alex De Angelis by just seven-tenths of a second. Yet Team Fortuna Aprilia’s goal for these tests was not to achieve the best time but to allow the riders to present themselves in the best conditions possible for the beginning of the season. A condition that even Hector Barbera is proving to have. Lorenzo’s teammate is one of those who could spark an internal rivalry within Fortuna Aprilia at the start of the season. However, both riders demonstrated solid consistency throughout the two days of Irta testing at Barcelona. During the first day, Jorge Lorenzo marked the best time and his teammate, Hector Barbera, came in third. “I leave Barcelona – said Lorenzo – with a good taste in my mouth. I feel really good about my riding on this motorcycle, something that is essential for riding comfortably. I am very satisfied with the work done by my team and we also have a good margin of development. My dream was to ride an APRILIA and I will not throw away this occasion. I feel very confident. I hope to be able to achieve good results on the Jerez circuit, a track on which I feel particularly at ease.” “The track was very messy this morning – said Barbera – however, the situation improved later on and we finished out the tests fairly well. I feel very good on this motorcycle and feel I have a good rhythm. I finished fourth but have to admit that I am very confident. Now we are heading out to Jerez for the lasts tests before the first race of the season. I really want to start.” After these two days of work, team FORTUNA APRILIA will rotate towards Jerez de la Frontera where the second session of 2006 IRTA testing will take place, as well as the first race of the season.
