WORLD’S FASTEST QUALIFIED TO ENTER AMA SUPERMOTO CHAMPIONSHIP FINALE
27 October 2004 - AMA Pro Racing
Nearly 80 riders have qualified to enter the AMA Supermoto Championship finale -- the AMA Red Bull Supermoto A-Go-Go -- in Las Vegas on Nov. 13 &14.
Two classes will run: Supermoto for motorcycles up to 450cc and Supermoto Unlimited for motorcycles over 490cc. Additionally, the Honda Red Riders Jr. Supermoto Challenge will run as a support class. The event, which will be held on a course constructed behind the Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas hotels, is also open to international racing stars, some of whom are already committed. Riders who have qualified in at least one 2004 AMA Supermoto Championship main event are eligible for the finale. Additionally, former FIM World Champions and any rider who has earned points at an FIM World Championship event this season are eligible. Defending series champions (Ben Bostrom and Grant Langston) will also be allowed to enter. A key change from last year’s championship finale is the fact that only those riders who have qualified by making the main at a regular season 2004 AMA Supermoto event will be eligible for championship points at Las Vegas. And of that group of riders, the top five finishers in the AMA Supermoto and AMA Supermoto Unlimited main events will be awarded double points for each finishing position. Five points are also available to the winner of the AMA Supermoto Superpole. According to AMA Pro Racing Supermoto Series Manager, Chris Bradley, this unique championship structure accomplishes a couple of key goals: “2003 was our inaugural year and the championship structure then was a ‘winner-take-all’ format,” said Bradley. “This year we organized it more like a cumulative points championship to benefit riders who commit to the entire series while still encouraging entry from riders who are focused primarily on other series. We reward consistency throughout the race season while elevating the reward for performance at the AMA Red Bull Supermoto A-Go-Go featuring world-class riders at a world-class event.” For a list of qualified riders by each class, please visit www.amasupermoto.com, the official website of the AMA Supermoto Championship. This year’s event is free to the public with pit passes available for purchase. Visit www.redbullsupermotoagogo.com and www.amasupermoto.com for detailed event information.
