IRTA TESTS
22 March 2005 - Aprilia

PASINI IS THE BEST IN THE 125

In the second day of Irta testing at the Montemelò circuit, Mattia Pasini made it known that in the 125, he is the fastest. The rider with the shield sponsored by the Roman soccer player, Francesco Totti, was the head of the class with a time of 1’51”538, improving yesterday’s time by more than 1”2.

“I am really satisfied – said Pasini – with the work I have done here. During the winter testing we got a lot done and these results serve as proof. Yet I am still convinced that there is more room for improvement.”

“The track – Pasini confirms – is still not as fast as it could be. Resurfacing the asphalt is not enough to lower times. We will all certainly improve more after the Motogp races here, contributing to rubberizing the trajectories.”

Also happy and satisfied is Marco Simoncelli of Team NoCable. The rider from Romagna closed out the last test of the session with an optimum 1’52”005 (about 1” less than what he registered yesterday) which placed him in third place.

“It is great to return to the group – said Simoncelli – it is even better to discover that I can stay up front. Last season, after the accident with my hand, I had hardly raced at all so now I feel especially positive for the start of the season.”

Placement problems slowed down the arrival of Marco Simoncelli towards the pole positions but a change of tyres was all that was needed to obtain a second of improvement.

“At the beginning of the run – explains Simoncelli – it just didn’t feel right. I was using a narrow back-tyre and the motorcycle wasn’t very stable. Towards the end of my second time around we had increased the size of the back tyre and I went down 1”2 right away with motorcycle riding much better. I felt more secure.”

Also improving his position was Hector Faubel, who went from 10th place yesterday to 5th place today with the time of 1’52”545. Alone in 13th was Zanetti (1’53”113) while Gadea slid into 22nd place with a time of 1’53”952.

The 125 will show up on the track again for the last series of Irta testing before the start of the World Championship Series, to begin March 21st at the circuit, Jerez de la Frontera.
