ANGEL RODRIGUEZ WILL RACE FOR TOTTI’S TEAM
29 November 2005 - Aprilia
The Totti Top Sport – 3C Racing team has reached an agreement with “Rodri” Ángel Rodríguez of participation in the 2006 Motomondiale in the 125cc category, but the more than ambitious objective is to move to the 250cc for 2007.
This way, the team is followed by a project that will evaluate young riders, kicking off the “Programma Giovani” (Youth Program). The Totti Top Sport group (headed by Francesco Totti, captain of the AS Roma Calcio soccer team), will continue in this newest installment of his collaboration with 3C Racing, the team directed by Christian Lundbery and Valerio Sbarra (who were already vice-champions in the 2004 125cc Worlds with Héctor Barbera, five victories and twelve podiums, and 4th in 2005 with Mattia Pasini, two victories and six podiums). Beyond that, the team will have director support from Aprilia Racing for the umpteenth season. Ángel Rodríguez discovered the world of motorcycles when he was 10; “Rodri ‘won the Spanish Mini-bike Championship in ‘95, ’96, and ’97. A year later, he participated in the Coppa Aprilia and began his push towards the Spanish 125 Velocity GP (CEV) Championship that culminated with a victory in the 2001 season with team 3C Racing. Furthermore, during that same year he participated in the World Championship for the first time with the same structure and obtained numerous top-ten places and flirted with victory on two occasions. After two unfortunate years where his potential to shone through nonetheless (as witnessed in the last races of 2005 and especially with the pole position he obtained at Phillip Island), Ángel Rodríguez and 3C Racing once again find themselves together four years later to battle for the 125cc World Championship. “We are really happy to be able to continue the work with Ángel that was interrupted in 2002– said Christian Lundberg (owner and technical director of the team) – and we’re also greatly motivated to be those that help Rodri set himself apart from the rest. We are placing all of our trust in his capabilities and we will give him our best in his fight for the World Championship.” “I think we have finally arrived at the moment of truth – said “Rodri” Ángel Rodríguez – I am really motivated to be able to work with those that gave me my beginning again and I have to thank them for this second opportunity. I will not disappoint them. The fact that Francesco Totti is behind this initiative is a great honor and responsibility that I feel I am now capable of handling.”
