APRILIA PROTAGONIST OF IRTA FIRST DAY TESTS
01 March 2006 - Aprilia
Aprilia has proved itself to be a protagonist of the 125.
In the first exhibit of the season, it was Sergio Gadea who was the fastest on the Catalonian track. The Iberian rider from Master Aspar rode to a 1’56”365. “There are twenty-two Aprilias drawn up for the minimum cylinder – said Gigi Dall’Inga, the Technical Director of Sporting Activities for the Piaggio Group – a number that’s important just like our clients who tackle the 125. To best follow them, there is a team of ten technicians available to assist the riders and their head technicians directly regarding any problems they may encounter. For us, this cylinder is very important and it is also a technically challenging test for the development of the 250. For Aprilia, 2006 will be an important year in which we will need to recuperate lost ground so that we can try to be winners on every occasion. The good performance by Aprilia riders today bodes well for the future.” Close to Gadea in third place was teammate Alvaro Bautista, Mattia Pasini (Master Aspar) in sixth place, and Angel Rodriguez (Totti Top Sport) in seventh. With the good performance of Lorenzo Zanetti (Skilled I.S.P.A.) in eighth place and the presence of Pablo Nieto (Multimedia Racing) in tenth, there are six Aprilia riders in the top ten. There were few slips during the first day of testing. Angel Rodriguez and Lukas Pesek (Derbi) both fell on the slow stretch of the circuit at different times during the day that only resulted a few scratches to their jumpsuits and the bike’s frame. Of note is the absence of Stefano Bianco. The rider from Totti Top Sport needed to be operated on again after his fall during the last installment of the Spanish Speed Championship at the end of 2005. Bianco will be on the track again for the first race of the season at Jerez de la Frontera. Tomorrow will be another half-day of 125 testing while the afternoon will see the debut of the 250 riders engaged in the first direct confrontation of 2006.
