LORENZO ZANETTI IS THE FASTEST
01 March 2006 - Aprilia
Lorenzo Zanetti (Skilled I.S.P.A.) was the fastest on the track in the second day of IRTA testing in Barcelona.
The Lombard rider reached 233 km/hour on the Montmelò straightaway. Among the top sprinters, besides the performance of Zanetti, there were four other Aprilia riders: Joan Olive and Federico Sandi (226.9 km/hour for both), Alvaro Bautista (227.2 km/hour), and Raffaele de Rosa (226.9 km/hour). Notwithstanding the fact that the best overall chronometer performance was not achieved in the second day of testing, the Barcelona session closed out in a positive manner for the 125 Aprilia riders. The great competitiveness of the Master Aspar Team was confirmed by Bautista, Gadea and Pasini, who came in third, fourth, and eighth on the day. Mattia Pasini raced 86 laps in two days at Montmelò, constantly working for a point of reference for June 11th’s race of the Catalonian Community Gp. Angel Rodriguez of Totti Top Sport continues to do well and despite the fact that his RS 125 is not outfitted with the most recent technological advances, he was able to conquer fifth position overall with a time of 1’51”382. Pablo Nieto also leaves Barcelona with a smile. The Iberian rider from Multimedia Racing was able to shake off the cobwebs that had accumulated in his nearly three months of absence from the track. He marked the ninth best time with a 1’51”743. Closing out the 125 classification of Irta testing were the two first-timers, Simone Grotzki Giorgi (Ticino Hosting Campetella) and Roberto Tamburini (Matteoni Racing) who came in 36th and 38th place respectively. For them, it was the first point of contact with colleagues from the international circuit and the first time on the Catalonia track. They worked hard and completed over 109 laps (515.2 km) in two days for Grotzki Giorgi and 112 (529.4 km) for Tamburini.
