ITALIAN SUPERMOTO CHAMPIONSHIP: VAN DEN BOSCH VICTORIOUS AT LATINA
15 May 2006 - Aprilia

The third round of the Italian Supermoto Championship took place on May 13th and 14th at the “Sagittario” circuit in Latina.

During Saturday’s qualifications, the official Aprilia riders’ supremacy was demonstrated as they grabbed the top three positions in the Sport classification. Thierry Van Den Bosch stopped the chronometer at 1’19”465, the best overall time. The second-best time came from Jerome Giraudo (1’19”624) and was followed by Frederic Bolley (1’19”654). Minimal differences that once again confirmed the level of the SXV 4.5’s collective performance and reliability as well as the validity of the riders that signed on with Aprilia.
Sunday opened up with a Super Pole that again had VDB at the top with Giraudo in 3rd and Bolley in 5th.
Race 1 ended with VDB in 2nd while Giraudo finished in 4th following a comeback. Bolley was instead forced to withdraw as he was involved in a group fall just a few meters out of the starting grid.
VDB was ready for redemption in Race 2 and didn’t concede an inch to his adversaries: he immediately took command and went on to win easily, earning absolute success in the Sport class for the day. Thanks to this victory, the Frenchman on an Aprilia reinforced his leadership in the championship’s classification.
After his withdrawal in the heat, Bolley finished in 5th place thanks to a comeback. A slip while he was in 2nd place behind Vdb carried a heavy price that cost Giraudo numerous positions that he was only able to recuperate up to 8th place overall.

“Once again we carried out a lot of work and it was demonstrated by good times.
Yet at the end of the race, we always harvest less than we plant. We have to take into account episodes that impact our productivity, like those at this year’s Tricolore and Worlds” commented Ennio Marchesin, the team’s sport director, who was nonetheless happy with VDB’s results and the potential again demonstrated at Latina by the twin from Noale.

In the Prestige category, the British Christian Iddon, fell in Race 1 and finished outside of the point zone after marking the 5th best time in Saturday’s qualifying rounds atop his Aprilia SXV 5.5. In Race 2, he obtained a solid 4th place by fighting hard in the lead group.

The next engagement for the Italian Supermoto championship will take place on June 3rd and 4th on the Sant’Egidio alla Vibrata track in the Terni province, the fourth of six stops that make up the Tricolore calendar.

Finally, a brief consideration. Last April 24th, the first trial of the Triveneto Supermotard Championship was disputed at the kartodromo of Ala (Trento, Italy). The victory in this series went to Stefano Mazzon who raced atop an Aprilia SXV 4.5, a motorcycle born out of the Noale assembly department and was destined for series production for the market. Thus, the success was obtained with a series motorcycle (including the braking system), testimony to the fact that the developmental work undertaken in the Italian and World Championships by the official Aprilia team is also successful for models destined for production.
