LORENZO AND DE ANGELIS, DOMINATORS AT JEREZ
28 March 2006 - Aprilia
Jorge Lorenzo is a winner. In the first Gp of the year in Spain he did everything: the pole and the 250 victory.
His marks were anything but mediocre and at the end, it was his impressive gait that didn’t allow his adversaries to escape. “It was awesome to be able to win and celebrate with the Spanish fans - said Jorge Lorenzo - that are the best in the world. I dreamed of riding such a solitary race like my idol, Max Biaggi, did. At the beginning of the race, the duel with Barbera was tiring but I was able to pull away. It was a tough race but absolutely wonderful to win my first 250 race in Spain. I couldn’t be happier. My objective, however, was to entertain the public and I dedicate this victory to all of my fans. I will not delude them this year''. The fight for the lead was up for grabs until the halfway point when Lorenzo, Barberà, and De Angelis began to jockey for the lead. However, De Angelis was the only one who demonstrated himself to be capable of following Jorge Lorenzo in his march towards victory. Alex, who grabbed fifth place, completely changed the setting of his motorcycle after having problems entering into curves. The modifications undertaken during the evening by the rider from San Marino’s team worked and allowed Alex to conquer second place. “We practically changed the setting of the motorcycle overnight – said Alex De Angelis - it was a risk because it was impossible to really test out the modifications during warm-ups. However, it went well and the problems I had in the rear disappeared almost completely. The race was satisfying for me and I am happy with my second place. I will continue to seek out my first victory, today I could have moved on Lorenzo but when my motorcycle became lighter due to less gas in the tank, my accelerations suffered from this loss of weight. It is better to have twenty points that to risk finishing the race with zero.”
