26 October 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association
GREAT Britain Under-21 boss Peter Oakes has handed first caps to no less than five riders for the international with Scotland at Edinburgh''s Armadale Stadium on Friday.
Rob Grant, Jamie Robertson, John Branney, Benji Compton and Shane Waldron are all named in the side. Waldron becomes the youngest ever international just two days after his 15th birthday. He was runner-up in the British Under-15 championship this year. HULL''S remarkable season continued with a 51-42 win over Reading in the first leg of the Young Shield Final at Smallmead on Monday. Emil Kramer was in spectacular form for the league champions with a 16+2 haul but it was a solid all-round Vikings performance. Reading were hit by the loss of Andrew Appleton who suffered a dislocated shoulder and was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital. DAVID Howe ended the season in style with victory in the Ladbroke Olympique at his home track Wolverhampton. Howe finished on 13-points ahead of Peter Karlsson on 12 and Scott Nicholls on 11. He said: ''It''s a prestige meeting to win and I just felt good throughout the night. I kept telling myself I could do it and it''s a great way to end the season.''
