THE TERRIBLE GIRLS OF THE JUNIOR GP
30 May 2006 - Aprilia

This year there are three determined and battle-hardened girls that are partaking in the Junior GP Racing Dream.

They have strong ideas and much desire to race (and especially to win). They aren’t interested in who’s behind them (rightly so), regardless of whether they are male or female. For them, the important thing is to finish as high as possible and to be the fastest so that some day, they may reach the most important finish line, the World Championship...

Here they are for you to get to know better, to give a face and personality to the girls and guys that live on a ...Racing Dream

Giulia Atzori
Born

Lives in

Favorite race number and why
I’d take 39 because it is the “family” number that my father raced with.
How do you define yourself?
Strong

Gym and pool

No

I eat everything
What do you usually read?
Motosprint
The last book you read?
L’odore del tuo respiro (The scent of your breath)

Do you have a motorcycle or scooter for everyday use?
A Derbi GPR, although since a friend died in an accident last year I rarely use it.
Your ideal vacation?
On the track
Do you have a boyfriend?
No
What do your girl friends say about your passion?
They usually don’t even know what I’m talking about. They don’t understand racing or the Moto GP, they only think of motorcycles for going out for a ride or with the boys.
The first time you rode a motorcycle?
When I was about seven atop a trial 250 in the woods
What was your first race?
The Junior GP
Your best result thus far
Certainly not in the Junior GP, the gear shift was backwards when they gave me the bike for the first time
How did you arrive at the Junior GP?
My father always wanted to make me into a rider and so when he saw the ad in Motosprint I decided to sign up.
The rider that you look up to or root for?
Marco Meandri
A comment on your competition...
They seem nice although it’s clear that many of them have more experience than I do.
Your first impression on the tournament?
It’s well organized and they treat us like official riders. The only thing that annoyed me was the gear shift. When we called to ask for information they told us it was normal but when I got there, it was mounted like it is on racing bikes. I didn’t even want to race because I had never tried it.
What did you think about the motorcycle?
Besides the gear shift I liked it, it’s very light.
What do you expect from this season?
To be able to race like the guys who already train for racing.
Where would you like to end up?
My dream is clearly the Moto GP.

What do your girl friends say about your passion?
Nothing really, they don’t approve of everything. Above all else, they don’t understand the sport too well.
The first time you rode a motorcycle?
I was five and a half atop a 48 cc cross.
What was your first race?
I was nine or ten atop a minicross; I began with the fifty and moved up to the eighty. I then passed over to the track.
Your best result thus far?
Third in the Tuscan minimoto championship.

My whole family watched the motomondiale, they saw an ad for the championship and we decided to try out. The rest is history.
The rider that you look up to or root for?
Valentino Rossi and Loris Capirossi
A comment on your competition...
The first race was tightly contested and filled with tension, it was a continual challenge.

It’s going really well!
What do you expect from this season?
I hope to finish the best possible.
