NEW RALLY KIT SILENCER
15 June 2006 - Aprilia
In Bosio’s paddock on the eve of the Italian Championship, the two official Aprilias captured the attention of journalists, photographers, and employees thanks to the brand new silencer mounted on both Alessandro Botturi’s RXV 4.5 and Alex Zanni’s RXV 5.5.
A lateral mono-tube added to the upper right area of the motorcycle substituted the two mini-trumpets that were previously located between the under-saddle and mudguard. This solution was born out of a kit creator’s desire to transform the RXV into a Rally motorcycle while still respecting the needs and the rules of the discipline. Seeing the essentiality of the RXV’s straightaway, increased space was needed to host the additional carburetor and water tanks, not to mention the various types of technical equipment. This is why a single lateral tube was chosen, mounted on a new posterior mini-frame that will be integrated into the SXV transformation kit for the African raids in its final Rally version. The data collected in the first, closed tests of this new exhaust was a pleasant surprise for the testers as the motorcycles’ allocation was much improved. From here came the idea to try it out in an Enduro race, both to test it out as a component of the kit and as a further development of the RXV. What can we say? The baptism was certainly positive and made Alex Zanni’s victory in the 500 and Alessandro Botturi’s 2nd place in the 450 even more brilliant. The solution was so well-liked that it will probably be used for the Italian Enduro Grand Prix to be held on June 17th and 18th in Rovetta (BG). There, other specific interventions are expected to reduce the weight and bring its electronics to a new level thanks to a mapping system that will guarantee improved functioning of the 77° V-twin from Noale.
