TOGETHER AGAIN IN 2007
19 August 2006 - Aprilia
APRILIA AND JORGE LORENZO
Aprilia and Jorge Lorenzo will partner up again in the 2007 season. The agreement between the company and the rider was reached in the days preceding the Czech Republic GP and reinforces the “pact” between the rider and his bike which has proven to be a winning combination already this season. Both Aprilia and Jorge Lorenzo are in the lead among the other world champions and manufacturers. Always a forge for new talents, Aprilia decided to continue its world championship adventure with the young Spanish rider, who at the moment represents the greatest talent in his category. In 2006, with the championship still ongoing, Jorge Lorenzo already boasts a good 6 victories and 7 pole positions. “For Aprilia, it has been a really positive year – said Leo Francesco Mercanti, Director of Brand Aprilia – and an important one, too. We are leading the manufacturers’ classification and that of the riders, both the 125 and 250, and we are anticipating a more than satisfying end to the year. The agreement with Jorge Lorenzo represents the first step towards making 2007 as good as this past year. Lorenzo has given us a lot of satisfaction and it is in his class, which he is leading, that we began our racing history nineteen years ago.” Jorge Lorenzo debuted in the world championship at 14 years old, at the Spanish GP at Jerez in 2002 in the saddle of a Derbi 125, and since then, the talent of the Spanish rider has done nothing but grow. Moving up to a RSW250 was the natural next step in Lorenzo’s career who is currently chasing the world championship title with his great results in the quarter liter class. At the moment, Jorge Lorenzo is at the top of the ranks with 174 points, while Aprilia leads among the manufacturers with 221 points, 31 more than its closest follower.
