THE APRILIA ENDURO ADVENTURE GETS OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT
09 April 2006 - Aprilia

With the round in Linguaglossa, Sicily, the adventure of the Aprilia RXV (the most exclusive and revolutionary motorcycle in the Enduro world) officially began.

After conquering the international Supermotard title in its 2004 debut, the powerful bi-cylinder is now ready to impose itself on the Enduro with a version that is very similar to the model that recently entered into series production.

The development of the project was entrusted to Alessandro Botturi (who is engaged in the 450 4T class) and Alex Zanni (who races in the 500 4T) who knew in Sicily that they were dealing with a course that would not naturally exalt the characteristics of the powerful V engine, born from the genial intuition of Aprilia technicians. Two spring days were not enough to completely dry out the ground of Etna’s slopes where mud remained in abundant proportions to the extent that alterations to the course were necessary.

The two busy opening days of the Assoluti d’Italia di Enduro (Absolute Italians of the Enduro) ended with two fifth places from Alessandro Botturi in the extremely fought-after 450 4T and a fifth and third place from Alex Zanni. If Botturi’s race was a good one, Zanni’s was in continual progression as confirmed by Saturday’s special trials times (when he improved constantly in the third and fourth lap) but especially from the lowered times on Sunday’s chronometer. Three of the last four special trials were in fact conquered by Alex Zanni’s Aprilia RXV.
The results from both categories were very encouraging from an international perspective because they demonstrate that many of the difficulties (not only the technical ones) that surround every motorcycle’s debut could be overcome. This confirmation also came from Stefano Passeri, who coordinated the activities of Team Aprilia’s Enduro: “We can’t be anything but satisfied, especially if you consider that Alessandro and Alex’s results were obtained on a torturous course strewn with holes and mud, the least favorable conditions for our motorcycles. I am sure that the bikes will impress on more raceable courses. At the end of the day, our riders knew how to adapt to the difficulties and took advantage of the opportunity this trip offered to go forward with our developmental work. After two days of racing, we have a clear idea of what direction we need to work in for the evolution and research of absolute competiveness. We therefore have clear ideas in our head regarding certain solutions and are only upset that the calendar isn’t on our side. The first international round is too close to allow us to effectuate the programmed changes”.
