THE SPANISH GP IN GERNIKA
16 May 2006 - Aprilia
The quick pace of Team Aprilia’s developmental work continues as they are busy in their first official season in the Enduro World Championships.
In the Spanish Grand Prix that took place on Saturday May 13th and Sunday May 14th in Gernika, the rain and mud almost made the course unusable. In the first day of racing, Alessandro Botturi (atop an Aprilia RXV 4.5) placed 16th in the E2 class, collecting five international points. It was instead a race to forget for Alex Zanni in the E3 class atop an Aprilia RXV 5.5. The Venetian rider was slowed down from the beginning of the race with a friction problem that forced him to withdraw. The sun finally poked through on the second day, improving conditions. Notwithstanding the track (still muddy at parts), Botturi gradually improved and climbed back into 13th place in the E2, the absolute toughest category of the Enduro World Championships with a lot of big riders. His top performance on the day was the 9th best time that he marked during the special testing. In the E3, Zanni was extremely motivated and closed out the testing in tenth place on a day that saw him in 7th place three times during the special testing. With the Spanish trials behind them, the third of the year, the next installment of the Enduro World Championships will be on June 17th and 18th in Rovetta, Bergamo. It will be a particularly awaited Italian GP in which Noale’s racing division will present an important evolution for both motorcycles that will entail a significant decrease in weight, modifications to the engine, the electronics, and new allocation and power curves. Furthermore, Botturi and Zanni will have a new ally: the passionate Italian crowd that certainly will not skimp on rooting for Team Aprilia.
