ZANNI FIRST WITH THE RXV 5.5
05 June 2006 - Aprilia
BOTTURI SECOND IN THE 450
After breaking the ice in the race at Castiglion Fiorentino, with the victory in the 450 class, at the Assoluti d’Italia of Alex Botturi in the saddle of the RXV 4.5, the next race on Saturday June 3 in Bosio (AL) once again saw an Aprilia go up one step on the podium. This time, however, at the centre of success was an imposing Alex Zanni perfectly assisted by an extremely efficient RXV 5.5. The rider from the Veneto region, placed himself out in front of two expert riders with multiple titles already under their belts like Fabio Farioli and Mario Rinaldi. “It was a beautiful day – said a happy Zanni – I’m really satisfied to have gotten my first win with the Aprilia. Race after race the bike keeps getting better and it drives even better, too.” A great race also for Alex Botturi who finished in second position in the 450 class, just behind Fabrizio Dini. “I started, as always, a little contracted – said Botturi – as the times of the first specials demonstrate. Then I was able to gain more confidence with the bike and from the middle of the race on, I began to recuperate, finishing just a little more than 7 seconds from the top. I needed another day of racing, like in Castiglion Fiorentino, because I was just getting good” he concluded, smiling, and seeming to have a real affection for his two cylinder from Noale. The Aprilia entourage was also enthusiastic about Zanni’s success in the first race. “A very good day – said the engineer Ampelio Macchi – it was definitely a positive race with the beautiful win by Zanni that shows the work of the technicians and mechanics on the RXV 5.5. Also Botturi did well with his great times in the final. If he had started out a little more confident, he would have been able to win, too.” But this race of the Finals also served to test new technical solutions. In fact, for the first time, an inedited muffler was worn during the race on both the RXV 4.5 of Alex Botturi and on the RXV 5.5 of Alex Zanni. It’s a unique lateral muffler, instead of the two classic pipes placed between the under saddle and the mudguard (which continue to be developed), that has already given good results in tests done for the rally bikes. Due to this modification, also the mainline was changed with a structure dedicated to improving the supply of the twin V from Noale. But in Bosio, a third official rider from Aprilia was registered by surprise. A RXV 4.5 special, a laboratory bike entrusted to rider-manager Stefano Passeri. No lateral mono-muffler for him but a large employment of titanium. And, besides many solutions to be tested in extreme conditions, that is, during a race, to make themselves more competitive than ever at the next Italian Grand Prix of Enduro, scheduled for the 17 and 18 of July at Rovetta, in the province of Bergamo. A lot to be done therefore, for a super job that has called upon the most extraordinary riders, engineers and mechanics that will continue as the bikes re-enter in the next races where they will be scrupulously controlled in every component.
