GOOD FIRST DAY IN THE ITALIAN GP
17 June 2006 - Aprilia
The first day of the race in the fortieth edition of the Bergamo Valleys, part of the Gran Prix of Italy, and the fourth leg of the World Enduro races, was characterized by the huge presence of Team Aprilia.
This is the setting that allowed Alessandro Botturi 5th in the E2, and Alex Zanni 6th in the E3, to emerge from the Bergamo course into the limelight. The fifth place finish achieved by “Bottu” represents his season best in the world championship in the saddle of the Aprilia RXV 4.5, which, together with the 1st and 2nd place finishes in the last two rounds at the Italian Championship, explains the continual referencing to the duo of “Botturi-RXV 4.5”. After his usual slow start, the rider from Brescia picked up the pace in the second lap, and from then on gave it his all, gaining fifth place in the E2, the best Italian finish in this class. A very stoic race also for Alex Zanni, who fought, besides with his adversaries, also against a still painful knee, due to an unlucky incident during training. Alex kept the promises he made the night before, and gritted his teeth, taking his Aprilia RXV 5.5 to sixth place in the E3 in a race known to be the most difficult of the world championship. It’s enough to point out the 22 riders that withdrew in the three rainbow classes, and 18 among the enrolled riders in the Junior world championship.
