APRILIA HAS A TOUGH SECOND DAY
19 July 2006 - Aprilia

The second day of the race of the Canadian Enduro GP was without a doubt better than the first for Team Aprilia, even if the company from Noale was quite unfortunate, and gained a lot less than was due.

This was especially true for Alessandro Botturi who, after his withdrawal Saturday because of a fall, appeared to be in much better shape making very respectable times, especially in the line trial and the Extreme. Unfortunately, bad luck continued to plague the official Aprilia rider and his RXV 4.5 on Sunday. In fact, during a difficult stretch, two riders blocked the only passageway causing him to lose thirty seconds which, at the end of the day, really took their toll on his final results. Furthermore, a fall towards the end of the race left him in 8th place in the E2 after having been in 7th and even 6th for most of the race.
“Today, I’m still satisfied – Alessandro Botturi confirmed – with how I fought right until the very end. The result isn’t really what I wanted, without the setback caused by those two riders I could have done better. I’m really sorry about yesterday’s withdrawal, we really didn’t need that, but both myself and the bike were really beat up.”
Alex Zanni, on the other hand, really felt the effects of the difficulty of the specials. He comes from motorcross and had a very hard time managing some of the specials which seemed more like jungle gyms than tracks. It is true that in the only trial suited to him, the cross test, he got a very good time, but, combined with the other times in the other specials, he and his Aprilia RXV 5.5 found themselves in tenth place in the E3 class.
Overall, the result of this Canadian GP did not do justice to the real potential of the motorcycles and the riders of the Noale House as in other big races of the world championship, and they had a lot of difficulty on Canadian soil.
Now their attentions are already on the GP in the United States. After the race, the mechanics immediately took apart the bikes to work on them, and after some changes they were loaded and ready for transport. Monday they will arrive in Hancock where on the 22 and 23 of July they will perform in the sixth trial of the world championship. The team members will head out Tuesday morning for the USA.
