PROTAGONISTS AT ''LA NORMA'' RACE
22 August 2006 - Aprilia
On Sunday, August 20th, Team Aprilia Enduro presented itself at the start of the 9th edition of the ''La Norma'', an international ''climbing'' race in the middle of Savoia, near the Frejus gallery.
1,450 meters of grade (where the highest point reaches 2.750 meters) where the way to the top translates into a fast and treacherous trail. On Saturday, the 250 riders who signed up for the task completed the first reconnaissance mission, only to then launch themselves into a time trial that dictated the order for Sunday’s starting grid. The best time was marked by Marc Germain (Yamaha) with Stefano Passeri close on his heels in second (winner in 2002, 2003, and 2004 and back for a day as an official rider atop his Aprilia RXV). Alessandro Botturi debuted exceptionally in this competition atop an Aprilia RXV 5.5 and brought his twin into fourth place. Sunday morning, from 9 to 12, the riders underwent three timed runs, throwing out their worst times. The sum of the best two times was once again notched by Marc Germain (who already won in 2005), tailed closely by Stefano Passeri just barely in second. Fourth place overall went to Alessandro Botturi who took advantage of the race to fit in a training session with the RXV 5.5 without taking any unnecessary risks. At the same time, it is worth mentioning that Botturi will meet up with teammate Alex Zanni next Tuesday (who just returned from his honeymoon) for a few important tests ahead of a series of truly decisive races in September. In fact, the Slovakian Grand Prix will be raced on September 2nd-3rd, the Italian Championship will conclude at Terni from the 9-10th, and the French GP will mark the epilogue of the International Championship from the 23-24th. But the work for Team Aprilia Enduro will not end there as both Zanni and Botturi have been called up to defend the Italian flag in the upcoming edition of the Six Days of Enduro to take place at Lake Taupo (New Zealand) from November 14-19th. 9th Cronoscalata Internazionale La Norma (France) 1.Marc Germain (Yamaha); 2. Stefano Passeri (Aprilia RXV 4.5); 3. Nicholas Paganon (Husqvarna); 4. Alessandro Botturi (Aprilia RXV 5.5)
