ZANNI 7TH AND BOTTURI 12TH IN KROMPACHY
03 September 2006 - Aprilia
The first day of the Slovakia Enduro Grand Prix had Team Aprilia making their mark, with both riders gaining points, even if a couple of unfortunate episodes ended up affecting their final results.
In Krompachy, the second-to-last leg of the world competition, Alex Zanni, riding on the Aprilia RXV 5.5, finished the day in seventh place in the E3 class. The Veneto rider, in his first race as a married man, performed very well, with two 5th place finishes in the specials, proving his top five abilities. In the last special, when he was pushing to get himself into fifth, he found himself with a competitor’s bike right in his path. In order to avoid it, he ended up going off the track, head over heels. Nothing serious, but anyway, due to this incident, Zanni lost thirty seconds that greatly affected his overall score in the race. The same story is true for Alessandro Botturi, twelfth in the E2 with the Aprilia RXV 4.5. The rider from Brescia fell at the beginning of the race and lost quite a bit of time before getting back in gear. The “Bottu” thus immediately accumulated a heavy lose (he was predicted to come in 20th) but was able to make up some lost ground, at least in part, thanks to several top ten finishes in the other specials. Anyway, the end result for the two Aprilia riders is great. They are both aware of their true potential and are strongly motivated for the second day of the race, where they will be on the attack. Krompachy – Slovakia Grand Prix, 7th leg of the World Enduro Championship FIRST DAY Class E2: 1. Stefan Merriman (Yamaha); 2. Johnny Aubert (Yamaha); 3. Samuli Aro (Ktm); 12. Alex Botturi (Aprilia RXV 4.5). Class E3: 1. David Knight (Ktm); 2. Sebastien Guillaume (Gas Gas); 3. Marko Tarkkala (Ktm); 7. Alex Zanni (Aprilia RXV 5.5).
