THE DAKAR FINISH LINE
24 January 2007 - Aprilia
Patrick van Lee adventure’s ended well as he finished the Lisbon-Dakar atop an Aprilia RXV 4.5 in 25th place in the Super Production class.
Celebrating at the finish line at Pink Lake in Senegal was the entire Aprilia Dakar Rally team, the Dutch team that knowingly equipped a mass production twin RXV 4.5 for the queen of desert competitions. A severe trial by fire at the most extreme competition that demonstrated the extraordinary reliability of the RXV 4.5. About 8,000 kilometers, 4,000 of them in specials, were covered in the two weeks it took to go from Lisbon to Dakar by way of Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Mauritius, Mali, and Senegal. These were the stats from the 2007 edition of Dakar where the Pink Lake finish line was a mirage for many, including the Dutchman Patrick van Lee who finished in 75th place overall atop the Aprilia RXV 4.5 (out of 245 participants), placing in 25th place overall in the Super Production class. A killer competition for both the competitors and the bikes that demonstrates the extraordinary reliability of the RXV 4.5. The mass production bike was dressed for the occasion by the Aprilia Dakar Rally team with larger tanks and frames, born out of the passion of Gerjan van Lee and Rick van Bommel, Aprilia dealers in Holland. A prestigious result that testifies to the versatility of the RXV project even in the world of the Rally, where Aprilia has already reeled in important affirmations in 2006, the debut year of the discipline, such as the 450 title in the Italian Motorally Championship from Paolo Ceci, who also gained a day-victory in the Sardinia Rally, a valid trial of the international Raid TT.
