ATKINS SOLID 5TH PLACE AT CLARKSTON
12 July 2006 - Aprilia
Good news from the USA where the Aprilia SXV 5.5 was the protagonist of the fifth trial of the AMA Supermoto Championships.
On Saturday, July 8th in Clarkston, Darryl Atkins (official rider of Team Pacific Racing atop a twin from Noale) received an optimal fifth place in the race reserved for the Unlimited class. After a good start to the championship, the rider from New Zealand had to endure two empty races (one due to a fall and another after electrical problems) but is now smiling again thanks to this good finish. Atkins proved it already in the qualifying rounds where he marked the third best time. Then in the race, he took off carefully. At the first lap he was in 6th and stayed there through half of the race until he forced the pace and decisively passed into 5th in the race won by Micky Dymond (Ktm). Thanks to this result, Atkins and the Aprilia SXV 5.5 return to the top ten in the general classification of the stars and stripes. His tenth place (with 49 points) is the platform from which he will take off for the second half of the season. Now, the calendar allows for a month of vacation in which riders can rejuvenate themselves and draw their weapons for the 6th trial of the AMA Supermoto Championship to take place on August 25th in Denver, Colorado.
