WOLVERHAMPTON SPEEDWAY
24 October 2004 - British Speedway Promoters Association
WOLVERHAMPTON bring the curtain down on an exciting 2004 with their hugely popular Ladbroke Olympique individual event on Monday (7.30pm).
And apart from the speedway racing itself, the club are staging their traditional end of season firework spectacular immediately after the final race with the emphasis very much on family entertianment. Individual events throughout the country have lost some of their sparkle in recent seasons - but the Olympique retains prestige on the domestic calendar with a quality line-up and the unique handicap system in operation. Riders who finish first, second or third in a race will start back from the start grid in their next outing and this formula always provides plenty of entertaining racing. The line-up includes a combination of familiar faces and Monmore debutants who are keen to impress club bosses in a bid to gain a team place next season. And British star Scott Nicholls, who rides for Ipswich, makes his first public appearance since he was named as one of next year''s Grand Prix riders. Wolves promoter Chris Van Straaten said: ''It will be good to welcome our former ridersd Peter Karlsson and Jesper B Jensen along with the current Wolves team. ''But we also have three riders who have never appeared in a competitive meeting at Monmore and I''ll be watching them with interest. ''The firework display is an exciting way for us to bring the curtain down on what has been an excellent season at Wolverhampton.'' LINE-UP INCLUDES: Peter Karlsson (Sweden), Charlie Gjedde (Swindon and Denmark), Scott Nicholls (Ipswich and England), Jesper B Jensen (Ipswich and Denmark) plus Wolves riders Sam Ermolenko, Chris Neath, Freddie Lindgren, David Howe, Mikael Max, Adam Skornicki and Magnus Karlsson.
