1ST AND 4TH AT THE ALP D’HUEZ
21 August 2006 - Aprilia

The month of August represents the ideal time for vacations at the beach or in the mountains.

This last option was Thierry Van Den Bosch’s choice, although he didn’t go to the mountains to catch a breath of fresh air. He instead went to participate in the 4th trail of the French Supermotard Championship that took place in Alp d’Huez. The French rider and his Aprilia SXV 4.5 presented themselves more battle-hardened than ever, claiming the Superpole in the Prestige 450 class.
VDB pressured Adrien Chareyre (Husqvarna) throughout Race 1, taking off well from the start but never finding the right opening. The two made contact and VDB fell into 4th place.

The counterattack of the official Aprilia rider came in Race 2 when he took off from the start and flew untouched, preceding Adrien Chareyre and his brother, Thomas (also with Husqvarna and provisionary series leader), to the checkered flag.

Thanks to the two places obtained at the Alp d’Huez, Van Den Bosch further reduced the gap in the classification between himself and Thomas Chareyre, who is currently in the lead with 168 points. In fact, VDB is now only six points back and there will be another race at the end of the month (on August 27th) at the new track of Saint Dié des Vosges where the Aprilia captain will attempt to pass his rival.
Before this, a series of important tests are slated to be held in Italy for him and the entire Team Aprilia Supermoto. Particularly awaited is the verdict from the track regarding the changes made to the Aprilia SXV 4.5’s electronics ahead of the next international trial that will take place in Germany on September 10th at St. Wendel.

In the S2 category of the highest international series, the twins from Noale have laid down the law and occupy the top three places in the provisionary classification with Thierry van Den Bosch and Jerome Giraudo paired at the top with 145 points, closely tailed by Frederic Bolley with 139. Also positive is the situation in the S1 category where Christian Iddon (atop an Aprilia SXV 5.5) finds himself in 2nd place, just 28 points behind the German Bernd Hiemer atop his Ktm.
