ATKINS IS OUT IN LONG BEACH
07 November 2006 - Aprilia

The last round of the Ama Supermoto Championship, held Sunday November 5 in Long Beach, was a bitter ending for Darryl Atkins (Aprilia SXV 5.5), who finished up the Supermoto Unlimited season with a withdrawal.

He qualified in eleventh place in the first battles of the race, but during the second lap, he fell, causing him to lose a lot of time in the box. A big disappointment for the rider from Pacific Racing, who started the season off great, debuting the two-cylinder from Noale in the highest stars and stripes series with a fourth place finish at Fontana, just one step away from the podium. His potential was proven again at Elkhart Lake 1 (6th), Clarkston and Denver 1 (twice 5th) and at Nashville (7th). Then, however, the last four races (Tooele, Denver 2, Elkhart Lake 2, and Long Beach) put him out of the top five in the series, causing him to fall back to eleventh place, last in the championship won by Benjamin Carlson (Ktm).
