PASSIONATE PUBLIC AT THE EICMA
20 November 2006 - Aprilia
The S2 Supermotard world champion, Thierry Van Den Bosch, and teammates Jerome Giraudo, Frederic Bolley, and Christian Iddon, were the off-road guest stars on Saturday, November 18th at the Eicma in Milan.
They first turned the Aprilia stand into mayhem as they signed autographs for fans before being interviewed on the Motolive stage. If Thursday the 16th was the day of the Enduro at the Milan Motorcycling Exhibition, Saturday the 18th was dedicated to the Aprilia Supermotard. To heat up the scene were official Aprilia riders including the S2 World Champion Thierry Van Den Bosch, runner-up Jerome Giraudo, Frederic Bolley (who finished in 4th), and the young Christian Iddon, the S1 prodigy atop his twin SXV 5.5. The quartet opened up the day with a visit to the Noale Production House at Stand #10. Before a briefing with the sporting director of the Aprilia Off-Road, Ennio Marchesin, they dove into the crowd to pose for pictures and sign autographs for fans. In the afternoon, the team was hosted at the Motolive stage in the outdoor racing arena for an interview that was rightly dedicated to a season that saw them dominate the international scene, bringing home the Constructors’ title with the Aprilia SXV 4.5. The supermotard dream team was accompanied by Ennio Marchesin and Francesco Scomparin (sales director of the Aprilia Off-Road) who used the occasion to launch the 2007 edition of the Aprilia Supermoto Cup Trophy. A challenge that was born this year and enjoyed immediate success. In 2007, there will be seven races on the calendar; five of which will be raced at International Championship circuits, one final at the Italian Eicma, and another European final since other Aprilia trophies will be promoted in various European nations. The best will then compete against each other in an international super-final. The qualifying rounds of the Triathlon (Motocross, Enduro, Supermotard) took place on Sunday, November 19th where Team Aprilia Supermoto registered the best team performance with Bolley atop the new Cross MXV 4.5, Giraudo atop the Enduro RXV, and Iddon on the SXV 4.5 in the Supermotard who replaced Van Den Bosch when we withdraw due to a hit to his knee. A great race for Bolley who closed out the first ten minutes, reserved to the Motocross, in 3rd place, handing it over to Giraudo in fresh Endurance clothes. Jerome, unfortunately, ran into a fall on the most difficult part of the track (the ford), ending up with the motorcycle in the water. An inconvenience that cost the team much time and any possibility of finishing atop the podium. In the last ten minutes, reserved for the supermotard, Iddon bravely attempted to make up for lost time but the team’s result was already compromised.
