APRILIA’S DOMINION IS 125
27 March 2006 - Aprilia
Six motorcycles in the top ten in the first race of 2006.
The 125 podium shouted out Aprilia thanks to the victory of Alvaro Bautista in the Spanish Gp and Mattia Pasini being the third rider to see the checkered flag. The two Master Aspar riders exemplified the development of the 8-liter race. First of all was Bautista with a good take-off, able to take the lead and not look back until he hit the checkered flag. Different was the race of his Italian teammate. Mattia wasn’t able to take off well and was forced to mount a furious comeback. The podium was a solid start to the season for him. Off the podium but still in the top ten were Hector Faubel and Sergio Gadea. These two riders, also racing for team Master Aspar, fought with the leaders at the beginning of the competition but both suffered from the middle of the race and on. The loss of a tire constricted them to limiting their damages and they were respectively sixth and seventh to cross the checkered flag. Protagonists of the third group were Joan Olive (SSM Racing) and Pablo Nieto (Multimedia Racing), the latter of whom tried to keep up with the pack for a good part of the race. After a tight duel in the final phases of the race, Nieto had to give his position and Olive went on to conquer his first seven points of the season. Amongst the other tidbits from the first race, Federico Sandi is worth mentioning. The young rider from the SSM Racing team battled at length with Thomas Luthi and went on to lie in wait for Lorenzo Zanetti (Skilled I.S.P.A.). Sandi, in his second season in the 125, conquered the first two points of his career with his 14th place. Leaving the race in Jerez early was one of the strongest riders on the Andalusian track. We are talking about Angel Rodriguez from 3C Racing who fell during his 11th lap. The riders from the 125 will be on the track again in two weeks in Qatar for the second international race of 2006 on the Losail track.
