FIRST LINE IS ALL APRILIA
06 May 2006 - Aprilia

The first rotation of the official Qatar Gp trials, the second stop of the 2006 Worlds, saw Aprilia conquer the entire first line thanks to the riders of Master Aspar Team.

The pole position went to Mattia Pasini, in great shape on the Losail circuit with a best time of 2’7”628. Behind him were teammates Sergio Gadea (2”07”881), Alvaro Bautista (2’07”926), and Hector Faubel (2’08”277). In the history of the motomondiale, no single team has ever conquered the entire first line.

Of note is Pasini who, with his time of 2’07”926, broke the track record set by Jorge Lorenzo in 2004 of 2’09”569.

Jorge Martinez’s team achieved two firsts: they were the first 125 team with five riders and also the first to conquer the entire first line with a single brand.

“I am very satisfied – said Martinez – but I want to keep both feet on the ground. We are only in the first day of trials and everything could change. Today’s results are fruit of the great work we did during the winter with Aprilia. We worked constructively and today our motorcycles are going 6km/hour faster on the track than they were last year as our times fall. I am happy for my riders and hope that this success spills over into the race.”

Speaking of riders atop Aprilias, we need to mention the 9th place of Pablo Nieto (Multimedia Racing), 10th of Joan Olive (SSM Racing), 11th of Angel Rodriguez (3C Racing), and 12th of Raffaele De Rosa (Multimedia Racing).

Things did not go as planned for Lorenzo Zanetti. The rider from Skilled I.S.P.A. finished out his first rotation of official trials in only 17th place. Tomorrow, the rider from Lombardy will look to move up in the rankings.
