LOSAIL GP
10 April 2006 - Aprilia
Alvaro Bautista of Master Aspar Team won again.
The second 125 engagement of the season proved the Iberian rider’s grace as he literally dominated the race. He took off in the pole position that he conquered during the second rotation of trials and the loss of his teammate, Mattia Pasini, who was leading the trials during the first day at Losail. The race was marked by the strong wind gusts that reached 35 km/hour on the straightaway during takeoff. This element notably influenced the 125’s performances. Notwithstanding, Bautista took advantage of his riding skills to the best of his ability and crossed reached the checkered flag alone with more than 6.7 seconds of advantage on Kallio and his teammate, Sergio Gadea. The 125 takeoff saw Pasini fall behind Gadea, Faubel, Kallio, and Pesek. During the central phase of the race, it seemed as if young Bautista’s superiority was destiny as he was able to win two races in a row in two performances, something that hasn’t happened since 2002 (22 Gps). Behind the Aspar jockey was a battle between Pasini, Kallio, Gadea, and Pesek. Pesek left the race a few meters before the end due to contact with Pasini. The Italian rider stated it was simply an accident after the race. During the maneuver, Pesek continued to tightened up on the curve while Pasini, in that position on the line, couldn’t slow down. The Qatar Gp therefore finished with another victory for Aprilia who was able to place six motorcycles in the top ten positions in the final classification, besides the winner’s RS. The day’s victory was not only Aprilia’s 81st in the history of the 125. Aprilia also emerged as the leader in the international constructors classification, fifty points ahead of the others just like in the Rider’s classification with Alvaro Bautista.
