PODIUM FOR GADEA AND BAUTISTA
26 June 2006 - Aprilia

Sergio Gadea stole past Alvaro Bautista in the last curve of the Holland GP in the 125 class; the two riders finished second and third respectively on the heels of Kallio, the winner.

Gadea was able to pass his teammate after an error by Bautista in the last curve before the straightaway.

The race was characterized by a true battle for victory between the riders that ended up on the podium. Bautista of the Master Aspar Team and Kallio (KTM), made it clear immediately that the fight in the classification rounds would continue on the race track. In the end, it was the riders from Master Aspar Bautista, Gadea and Faubel who tried to hardest to catch Kallio. At their backs was a wolfpack with Nieto and De Rosa from Multimedia Racing and Andrea Iannone from Team Campetella who tried to keep up with the rhythm of those in first.

Everyone wanted to win, but the fight was really between Kallio, Bautista and Gadea. All three maintained their positions for more than a lap, quite a rare occurrence. However, in the end, the joy of victory was missing due to the near collision of the two riders from Aspar in the last curve. Bautista misjudged the ideal line of the last curve and almost ended up in the second curve. The manoeuvre forced him to go wide, right where his teammate Gadea was. Bautista, even though he was extremely close to Gadea did not hold back and did not let off the gas. Despite this, the two were able to finish the race, knowing they would be able to get on the podium.

After today’s results Bautista is still the leader with 160 points, 47 above Kallio who has 113 points. Gadea is now in third with 103 points.

In sixth and seventh place there were two more Master Aspar Team members, Hector Faubel and Mattia Pasini. These two fought against Pesek (Derbi) and Corsi (Gilera), who went under the chequered flag in fourth and fifth place.

Pasini’s race was influenced by a problem with his back which did not allow him to drive as he would have wanted. The Italian rider was not able to fight for the win, but the points he gained will help him in the overall category; he is currently in fifth with 55 points.

Thanks to the Aprilia riders in the Holland GP, Aprilia is the leader with 178 points, a 60 point advantage over their closest competitor. Next week there is a new date on the track in Donington for the England GP.
