ENGLISH GP DOMINATED BY BAUTISTA
03 July 2006 - Aprilia

Alvaro Bautista of Master Aspar Team won the English Gp with superiority, cementing his role atop the international 125 riders’ category.

Additionally, this victory from the Spanish rider from Martinez’s rich group is Aprilia’s 84th in the 125 and the 199th in the history of the production house’s engagement in track competition.

Bautista took off well from his pole position and didn’t lose Kallio’s tail (who had a better start). After liberating himself from the KTM rider, Bautista beat out his rhythm, decisively superior to those of his adversaries.

Behind Bautista and Kallio, the battle was first contested by a tight group composed of Pasini, Pesek, Corsi, Faubel, and Gadea. With the passing of the laps, it was Pasini and Kallio who pulled ahead. Mattia was in fact the protagonist of a nice duel with the KTM rider. Always courteous, the two riders went at it without letting themselves be intimidated. For a good part of the race, Mattia led the duel while defending his second place. During the last lap, the Finnish rider’s attack at the ramp before the finish line relieved Pasini of the second grade on the podium.

Behind Pasini (who came in 3rd with 112 points, 4th place overall in the classification), were teammates Hector Faubel and Sergio Gadea who were followed by countryman Joan Olive (SSM Racing) in 6th place.

Another glitch for Lorenzo Zanetti who finished the race in 15th place, bringing home one international point. Things didn’t go any better for Andrea Iannone of Campetella Racing, who finished in 19th place. The Italian rider, who had a few problems with the RS 125 during the course of the weekend, will be among the protagonists of the German GP to be raced in two weeks at Sachsenring.

Among those who withdrew were Pablo Nieto and Raffaele de Rosa of Multimedia Racing. Nieto was never right after a nasty fall he incurred during practice that caused him a cranial trauma. His teammate had difficulties with the track that cost him a fall at the penultimate lap.

Thanks to Alvaro Bautista’s victory, Aprilia leaves England ahead of the world constructors’ category with 203 points, 75 ahead of KTM.
