AMP’D MOBILE SUPERCROSS MAKES ITS FINAL STOP AT ANGEL STADIUM
Kawasaki’s Stewart Attempts Record Third-Win at Anaheim in Same Season Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP/Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series returns to Anaheim’s Angel Stadium for its third and final stop this Saturday as Kawasaki’s James Stewart lines up to become the first rider in history to sweep all three stops at this venue. A pre-race press conference will be held inside the Diamond Club at Angel Stadium Thursday, February 1 from Noon-2:00 p.m., featuring the Yamaha’s Chad Reed and Nathan Ramsey. Last week, Suzuki’s Ricky Carmichael, of Tallahassee, Fla., won the main event at San Francisco’s AT&T Park. Carmichael will forego this weekend’s race as part of his select schedule this season. Stewart, who leads both the Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP and Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series, has three wins this season. In the AMA Supercross Lites class, Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto, of Poulsbo, Wash., earned his third win on the season. Stewart, of Haines City, Fla., leads Yamaha’s Chad Reed 139-127 in the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series. “I mean, we can always improve,” said Stewart in the post-race press conference at San Francisco. “We just have to go back and refocus, but like I said, I felt really good tonight. You guys probably can’t tell, but I felt the best I’ve felt all year long and for me, that was a positive to keep getting stronger each race. And you get stronger as the year gets on. We just improve on just setups and just going to the race and make sure I keep doing what I need to do and it’ll be fine. At last year’s Anaheim 3 race, a sold-out Angel Stadium saw Carmichael, of Tallahassee, Fla., win his third Amp’d Mobile World Supercross GP/Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross race. Reigning AMA Supercross Lites champion Grant Langston, of Clemont, Fla., won the AMA Supercross Lites main event. In the AMA Supercross Lites main event, KTM rookie Mike Alessi, of Apple Valley, Calif., won the $1,000 Progressive Direct Holeshot Award, with his teammate Nathan Ramsey, of Menifee, Calif., in second and Langston in third. After passing Ramsey on the opening lap, Langston moved by Alessi on lap two and picked up his second win of the season and moved into the points lead. Amp’d Mobile Supercross, which made its racing début in Anaheim on December 4, 1976, brings a multi-million dollar economic impact to the city for each race, where fans from around the world converge to watch the world’s top racers compete in the storied city. Carmichael is tied at eight with seven-time supercross champion Jeremy McGrath for the all-time win record in Anaheim.
