OFFICIAL RIDERS GET APRILIA SXV
31 May 2006 - Aprilia

Jorge Lorenzo, Hector Barbera and Alex De Angelis received the Supermoto Aprilia SXV two-cylinders to use in training.

The three official riders got the bikes at Mugello, in the setting of the GP of Italy, the home race for Aprilia.

The SXV for the official riders of Aprilia are the Racing version, with an electric and mechanical power kit, used in races by Gerome Giraudo and Thierry Van den Bosche. We’re speaking of highly specialized bikes, capable of the highest results, already in series version. These examples, thanks to a few modifications to the mapping of the main line of the injection, thanks to the adoption of the racing exhaust and the new filter, they run at more than 75 horses in the 550cc version. On an aesthetic level, the only thing that distinguishes the bike of Lorenzo, Barbera and De Angelis from the series bikes is the lack of instruments and of compasses.

The “Supermotos” are a phenomenon on the rise, in which Aprilia entered with a revolutionary proposal. The SXV, in fact, are the first bikes in mass production that adopted the solution of the two-cylinder engine. A winning novelty with which Aprilia in its debut in the world championship of Supermoto, captured the title win in 2004 with Gerome Giraudo.

For the speed riders, training with the Supermotos is very important. Thanks to this sport, they are able to refine their control abilities and the ability to respond to sudden events. The unpredictable character, the emblem of the Supermotard, allows an improvement in the sensibility of the professionals of motorcycle racing, like the official riders of Aprilia.

For Alex De Angelis, the SXV is not totally unfamiliar. The San Marino rider, in fact, debuted the SXV, the prototype version, in the world Supermoto at the end of 2003 on the track of SPA Francochamps. Furthermore, the directions from De Angelis allowed for the development of the motorcycle now, and the year after, the World Championship in the S2 category for Gerome Giraudo.

Jorge Lorenzo and Hector Barbera will use their SXVs for training, respectively in the motard tracks of Barcelona and Valencia. The two Spaniards really appreciate the line and technical aspects of the two-cylinder and put their trust in it. Barbera couldn’t resist immediately taking a test drive on the pit lane at Mugello, while Hector jealously got on his SXV as soon as he got it.
