BARBERA IN JEREZ TESTS
25 January 2007 - Aprilia

Hector Barbera was the protagonist of the 250 tests at Jerez de la Frontera.

The rider from Valencia, who will race the 2007 season for Team Toth assisted by Rossano Brazzi as lead technician, returned to racing after a long pause since the end of the world championships.

Barbera was the fasted both yesterday (1:44.587) and today when he improved his time to 1:44.500, notwithstanding the worsening meteorological conditions. Time was of no help to the riders on the Andalusian circuit. The first day on the track, Monday January 22nd, saw only a few riders who were willing to race through the adverse meteorological conditions.

Among those was Jorge Lorenzo, reigning World Champion, whose confidence in his official RSW250 picked up where it left off after the last, decisive race of 2006. Lorenzo did his best yesterday with a time of 1:45.346.

Also racing well was Alex De Angelis of Master Aspar Team. The rider from San Marino seems to be in good shape capable of racing quickly right away. Already involved in the development of the 2007 motorcycles for the Valencia Community GP, De Angelis again gave important information for the definition of the new frame that will be used by the official riders in 2007. De Angelis in fact recorded his best time yesterday with a 1:44.590 although the weather conditions and cold didn''t allow him to further improve his time as he clocked in a 1:45.222.

Continuing with their apprenticeship atop official RSW''s were Thomas Luthi and Alvaro Bautista. The returning 125 champion, Bautista, wasn''t excessively spectacular, his best time was yesterday''s 1:45.920. The Iberian rider continues to discover the potential of his bike and is seeking to adapt his riding to the 4-liter. Luthi is quite far along as he works with the CaffeLatte team. The Swiss rider was consistently among the fastest riders, close to Barbera with a 1:45.022 yesterday.

Debuting in the 250 was Fabrizio Lai atop the standard RSV 250 of Team Campetella. The rider from Lombardy marked his best time yesterday with a 1:45.920, 6th overall on the day.
Also present at Jerez were Aleix Espargaro (Team BQR Aprilia), Imre Toth (Toth Team), and Karel Abraham (AB Cardion).

The next tests will begin on January 26th at Valencia.
