SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES - 22 JANUARY
22 January 2007 - British Speedway Promoters Association
SPEEDWAY 1 WORKINGTON could be forced to close at the end of 2010 after plans for a new 10,000 seater stadium in the town revealed no provision for speedway. Comets owner Tony Mole says the club are safe at Derwent Park – for now. He said: “Speedway racing is still the best supported sport in Workington and second only to Carlisle United in Cumbria. “Maybe our fans should ask their local councillors for their views on these proposals?” SPEEDWAY 2 WEYMOUTH have taken Nathan Irwin back to the Wessex Stadium. Irwin was a member of the Wildcats side in their first season back on track after a 20-year absence in 2003 and has since raced for Boston. Wildcats Chairman Phil Bartlett said “Nathan was very popular with the supporters when he previously rode for us and is a talented and versatile rider. We’re delighted to have him back on board.” FIXTURE SUNDAY FEBRUARY 11: TELFORD INDOOR ICE INTERNATIONAL: 3pm & 7.30
