Brands Hatch set for biggest ever season
Brands Hatch has just confirmed the biggest calendar in the circuit’s 81-year-history, and is set to host more international race meetings than ANY other race track in the UK. With dates for A1GP World Cup of Motorsport, the World Superbike Championship, DTM and the FIA World Touring Car Championship confirmed, along with two meetings from both the British Touring Car and Bennetts British Superbike Championships, the Kent circuit is anticipating record numbers of fans for 2007. The first major event of the year begins on 31 March, with plenty of paint-swapping action from the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship. A week later, the Bennetts British Superbike Championship holds its much anticipated season-opener on the Grand Prix circuit with 2006 champion Ryuichi Kiyonari, Spain’s Gregorio Lavilla and Britain’s Leon Haslam all expected to provide another breathtaking three way battle for the first points of the year. After an incredibly successful debut at Brands Hatch in 2005, the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport returns on 29 April for the thrilling finale of the 2006-07 season, and if the current series standings are anything to go by, fans can expect a titanic showdown between Team Great Britain and arch rivals Germany. The summer months bring the might of the flame-spitting DTM touring cars with the likes of ex-F1 star Mika Hakkinen on 10 June, the best on two wheels with the World Superbike Championship on 5 August and the ultra-competitive World Touring Cars on 23 September - complete with defending two-time champion Brit Andy Priaulx. Historic race meetings also feature highly on the 2007 calendar, with events such as the Masters Historic on 28 May and the HSCC Superprix on 1 July, allowing fans to revel in the sight and sound of classic F1 and sportscar machinery. There’s also plenty of club racing to look forward to throughout the year, starting with the Lotus Brands Hatch Celebration season opener on Saturday, 24 March, through to the famous Formula Ford Festival in October and the might of the Truck Racing Superprix on 4 November. The first major event of the year at Brands Hatch will be the opening rounds of the British Touring Car Championship on 31 March.
