SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURE 18.1.07
18 January 2007 - British Speedway Promoters Association
SPEEDWAY 1 SAM Ermolenko has promised more big names to follow that of world champion Jason Crump for his farewell meeting at Wolverhampton on March 18. Crump is the first rider to be named in what Ermolenko promises will be a star-studded field to mark the end of his glittering career. He said: “I’ve talked to a lot of riders and they’ve all said they would love to come and join me. Expect more big names pretty soon!” SPEEDWAY 2 NEW Newport signing Phil Morris is the latest rider confirmed for next month’s Telford ice spectacular – 14 years after his debut! Morris made history at the Shropshire rink as a 17-year-old when he became the youngest ever rider in the event. Telford co-promoter Graham Drury said: “Phil’s very serious about his chances of doing well and is trying to do a deal with former three-times British Champion Jan Staechmann to buy his famous ‘pink machine’.” SPEEDWAY 3 SHEFFIELD skipper Andre Compton has signed a new deal to race in Sweden - to keep himself out of the comfort zone. Compton has agreed to race 18 meetings for top flight club Eskilstuna. He said: ''I love it. Sometimes in the Premier League here in England you can slip into the comfort zone and I feel like I can beat anybody, especially at home, but Sweden really tests me.” FIXTURE SUNDAY FEBRUARY 11: TELFORD INDOOR ICE INTERNATIONAL: 3pm & 7.30
