SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES - 15 JANUARY
15 January 2007 - British Speedway Promoters Association
SPEEDWAY 1 WOLVERHAMPTON''S David Howe won the New Year Classic for a second time at Newport on Sunday. Howe, the 2003 winner, lost the title to Chris Harris the following year but gained some revenge this time with a late pass on the Coventry rider. Both had scored 13 points from their five qualifying rides and they were joined in the Final by Leigh Lanham, who took third place, and Rye House man Chris Neath. SPEEDWAY 2 SHAUN Tacey is on his way back to Mildenhall – eight months after he was sacked by the club! Tacey, the former Coventry man, celebrated a testimonial at West Row last season and is keen to make up for his disappointing form. Team manager Laurence Rogers said: “Shaun has a point to prove to show last year’s dip in form was a one-off and he was very keen to come back.” SPEEDWAY 3 WEYMOUTH’S David Mason believes title favourites Scunthorpe and Plymouth won’t have it all their own way next season. Mason is backing the Wildcats to be involved in the chase for Conference League silverware. He said: “Although Plymouth and Scunthorpe seem to be the names on everybody’s lips, Scunthorpe have several riders doubling up so it’s by no means a two horse race and I believe we are in with a shout.” SPEEDWAY 4 LUKE Priest is back in speedway for the new season – as mechanic to Stoke colleague Jack Hargreaves. Priest suffered multiple injuries in a horror crash last year and faces more surgery in his recovery programme. He said: “Helping Jack will keep me involved and I think it can only help my recovery. I’m well ahead of schedule and feel that being around the team on race nights can only help.” FIXTURE SUNDAY FEBRUARY 11: TELFORD INDOOR ICE INTERNATIONAL: 3pm & 7.30
