SPEEDWAY NEWS AND FIXTURES - 10 JANUARY
10 January 2007 - British Speedway Promoters Association
SPEEDWAY 1 WEYMOUTH chairman Phil Bartlett has moved to assure fans the club is safe – despite sweeping changes at landlords Weymouth FC. The Conference League club rent their track at the Wessex Stadium and Bartlett has had reassurances over the future. He said: “Their Chief Executive, Gary Calder, has told me nothing has changed and we’ll be racing at the stadium in 2007, despite difficult times for the football club.” SPEEDWAY 2 STUART Robson is the first name to be confirmed for Kevin Little''s farewell meeting. Little, one of the sport''s most popular riders, will celebrate his 20-year career at Redcar’s South Tees Motorsport Park on April 5. Said Little: ''I’ve known the Robson family for many years so Stuart seemed a good man to start with, I’m delighted he’s on board and more of my friends will follow soon.” SPEEDWAY 3 COVENTRY have made German Martin Smolinski their sixth signing for the 2007 season - leaving them with just one spot to fill. And he has an extra incentive to continue his improvement as he aims for a Grand Prix wildcard place in his home country in October. Bees co-promoter Colin Pratt said: ''I''m very pleased and I feel he will be one of the strongest reserves in the League.” SPEEDWAY 4 NEIL Collins is looking for a club after discovering that he wasn''t in Newport''s plans for the new campaign. He said: ''This would be my 30th and final season in speedway so I was very disappointed to find Newport didn''t want me. ''I had an operation in December to sort out a collarbone problem so I would be 100 per cent fit for the new season and now this has happened.'' FIXTURE SUNDAY JANUARY 14: NEW YEAR CLASSIC: Newport 1pm
