MAX - WHY I SAID NO
20 December 2006 - Wolverhampton Speedway
MIKAEL Max has sung the praises of Wolverhampton bosses Chris Van Straaten and Peter Adams after rejecting a return to the club.
Max, a club legend, wants to focus on Swedish and Polish League meetings to regain the confidence he lost after an unsuccessful comeback from injury with Arena-Essex. And he insists his British career is far from over - as long as he gets back to his best. Max spoke to us just after returning from Christmas shopping at his Swedish home. He said: ''I made my mind up right at the end of last season that I needed to miss out on England and I told Chris and Pete. I asked them to keep it quiet and they did. ''But I also realised as time went on that it was the right decision and I''m going to stick by it, even though I''ll admit I''ve had second thoughts now and again and I''ve been tempted to say yes! ''I have to do this for the good of my career and if I continue to ride like I did last season I won''t be back riding in England because I won''t be riding anywhere, I might as well forget it. ''I have to enjoy my racing and Chris and Pete have been very understanding and they''ve supported me through this difficult time. ''It''s not been easy, they wanted to have me back at Wolverhampton and it''s hard to say no, but I have to put myself first in this instance.''
