KX450F KEY POINTS
Improved acceleration and drive New 5-speed transmission Changes to suspension and frame for lighter, quicker steering Smoother suspension action and improved damping performance Hard hitting power from mid-high rpm Petal shaped brake discs Works style Renthal handlebar Works style skid plate New graphics CHANGES FROM 2006 MODEL Revised intake port shape for increased response. The intake and exhaust valve timing has been changed to increase ultra-low rpm torque. A new flame arrestor in the air box improves intake efficiency. New carburettor and ignition settings help boost low-end performance. A revised baffle pipe and tapered exhaust pipe joint contribute to the increase in ultra-low torque. A new 5-speed transmission offers additional freedom in gear selection. Changes to the shift mechanism improve feel. A sprocket style chain roller reduces the effect of driveline lash. Changes to the frame''s main spars reduce its torsional rigidity for quicker turning and improved manoeuvrability. A new internal construction of the front fork provides a smoother suspension action and improved damping performance. The inner tubes of the front fork have been coated with diamond like carbon (DLC) to reduce friction and increase surface hardness. The rear shock has a revised rebound adjuster needle to improve damping performance. The rear wheel has a stronger rim. A rib-less hub and butted spokes reduce unsprung weight. Both front and rear hubs have a cool brown factory style finish. Lightweight short length handlebar grips have a new pattern for improved grip. A revised front brake master cylinder hose joint allows a greater range of lever position. New front and rear fender material increases shock resistance. FEATURES AND BENEFITS: ENGINE High performance 4-stroke engine DOHC with 4 titanium valves produces a wide powerband with high torque and rpm. Asymmetrical high acceleration cams improve intake efficiency. Smooth intake ports increase efficiency at all engine speeds. Screw type cam adjuster with pressure spring ensures accurate cam chain tension and reduced mechanical noise. Dual weight centrifugal decompression system eases starting. Digital Acceleration Compensating Capacitor Discharge Ignition (AC-CDI) A separate ignition map for neutral gives quick starting and a stable idle when in neutral. A second map is selected when a gear is engaged to reduce the engine braking effect. Smooth rev limiter performance is achieved using lost spark control. Fuel system 40 mm Keihin FCR carburettor provides quick starting, good response and a wide powerband. Hot start lever on the left handlebar leans off the fuel mixture making starting a hot engine quick and easy. Exhaust system Tapered titanium exhaust pipe is lightweight and has that ''factory'' look about it. CHASSIS Frame The lightweight aluminium perimeter frame is wider at the ankles to offer grip to the rider and narrower further up for a slim riding position. A works-style aluminium skid plate is fitted as standard. Inverted 48 mm front fork A twin chamber type fork with 22 way compression and 20 way rebound damping adjustment. Uni-Trak ® rear suspension Uni-Trak ® offers superb traction and smooth suspension action across the whole stroke in a lightweight and compact suspension package. 22 way (low-speed), 2 turns (high-speed) compression and 22 way rebound damping with spring preload adjustment to tune suspension to all conditions. Front and rear disc brakes Petal disc brakes reduce unsprung weight and the wave shape helps clean the brake pads for more efficient operation. Solid petal discs are available as an option for wet races.
