SPEEDWAY 1 PETER Oakes has pledged his immediate future to Coventry - thanks to his grandson! Oakes was considering quitting as joint boss because of his hectic schedule. But he said: ''The set-up at the club is right, and I should also give some credit to my grandson Josh who travels to most of the matches with me and has been busily persuading me to stay on since the end of last season!'' SPEEDWAY 2 BIRMINGHAM have signed Elite League title winner Ulrich Ostergaard and youngster Ben Powell in a double swoop. Ostergaard joins on loan from Peterborough after playing his part in their amazing success last season and Powell steps up from the Conference League. Boss Graham Drury said: ''Ulrich is a very technical rider who will do well for us and Ben has a lot of potential for the season ahead.'' SPEEDWAY 3 PROUD Welshman Phil Morris has finally signed for Newport - a decade after seeing a move to the Hayley Stadium fall through. Morris spent last season with Belle Vue and has also had spells with Reading and Newcastle. Wasps promoter Tim Stone said: ''It''s great to have a rider resident in the area riding for the club. It is the right time for us and the right time for Phil.''
