WOLVERHAMPTON SPEEDWAY NEWS
10 December 2006 - Wolverhampton Speedway

WOLVERHAMPTON Speedway are pleased to confirm they have been granted permission to speak to Edinburgh''s Dutch star Theo Pijper.

Pijper, who has already expressed a wish to test his skills in the top flight, impressed Monmore promoter Chris Van Straaten in last season''s flagship individual event at the Black Country track.

He asked the Scottish side for the necessary permission to open talks with Pijper, who is also a specialist on both the grasstrack and longtrack circuit, and hopes a deal will be concluded in the near future.

Van Straaten said: ''Theo has a good attitude, even after a few years in the Premier League he is now showing a lot of ambition and has already expressed a lot of enthusiasm about coming to Wolverhampton.

''We will now hold talks regarding personal terms and I hope we will be able to announce him as a confirmed member of our team sooner rather than later.

''I have a good relationship with the Edinburgh management and I hope that can continue as it can prove mutually beneficial and I would like to thank them for granting us the necessary approval to hold talks with Theo.

''He can be a class act on his day and I like the fact that he mixes it with the top boys at weekends on the continent, and he shows no fear of having a go in the Elite League with Wolverhampton, he likes the idea.''

Wolverhampton have already confirmed 1996 World Champion Billy Hamill and David Howe for the 2007 season, which starts next March.
