SECOND SIGNING
08 December 2006 - Wolverhampton Speedway

BILLY Hamill is the second rider to confirm his place in Wolverhampton''s 2007 Elite League team.

The 1996 world champion will spend a second successive year with the Monmore men after impressing last season.

His all-action style has made him a firm favourite with the fans, despite his past connections with bitter rivals Coventry and the defunct Cradley Heath club.
Wolves owner Chris Van Straaten said: ''He looked to get through last season without any major injuries and I think he achieved that apart from a few knocks here and there. And I still believe there is more to come from him.

''At long last we got together, on two previous occasions we had almost got there but for various reasons it didn''t happen.
''The Cradley connection has, sadly, long gone and I had no fear in finally employing a rider who, my heart told me, belonged to Cradley.

''Billy was the ultimate professional, never a moment of trouble and very much a team man which had obviously been instilled into him earlier in his career.
''He was always interested in what his team-mates were doing, always interested in the club as a whole and we were totally impressed with the contribution he made both on and off the track.''

Van Straaten has also thanked Hamill''s parent club Coventry for their co-operation in the deal.
He said: ''Coventry were excellent and very professional in all our dealings on the matter.''

Hamill himself agrees there is more to come from him after a solid 2006 season.
He said: ''I feel I can improve my average again next season and can''t wait to get started.
''I want to win the league title in England before I retire and will be giving my all along with my team mates to hopefully achieve my goal.
''Chris and Peter have spoken to me about their plans for the team and it sounds exciting.
''David Howe is a rider I know well from riding with him at Smederna in Sweden and he has huge potential and with his new ''set up'' he could prove to be a vital signing for the team.''
