MARKO TARKKALA SIGNED UP FOR 2007 SEASON
07 December 2006 - KTM-Sportmotorcycles AG

KTM has re-signed Finnish Enduro rider Marko Tarkkala for the 2007 season following his successes in the 2006 E3 Class where he finished 3rd in the World Championships.

Speaking from his home in Finland, Marko said he was delighted to be staying on with the team and had his heart set on becoming world champion. “That’s definitely my aim for the coming season,” he said. Marko made his world championship debut on 2001 and became a factory rider for the first time in the 2005 season.

Looking back on the 2006 season Marko said — perhaps revealing his own northern roots — that he most enjoyed the event in Sweden, where he was second on the podium behind fellow KTM team mate David Knight. Knight went on the E3 World Championship title.

“There are many nice events, but I think Sweden was my favourite,” he admitted. He also enjoyed playing a part in the Finnish team victory in New Zealand at the close of the season.

Meanwhile, back home in Finland Marko, who will celebrate his 25th birthday mid season 2007, is already forging ahead with a fitness program for the off-season period that includes, among other activities, cycling and gym workouts. He will also indulge in his passion for ice hockey, a sport wildly popular in his home country.
